ABSTRACT: The present study is used to investigate the hepatoprotective activity of ethanolic bark extract of Terminalia arjuna on paracetamol induced liver damage. In hepatotoxic rats, liver damage was studied by assessing the levels of the enzymes Alanine Transaminase (ALT), Aspartate Transaminase (AST), Alkaline Phosphatase (ACP) and Total Bilirubin in serum. The phytoconstituents and the antioxidant activity are also determined. The Albino rats were divided into four groups. Group I served as normal control; Group II received paracetamol (200mg/kg body weight/rat/day) as disease control; Group III treated with ethanolic extract of Terminalia arjuna bark; Group IV treated with reference drug, silymarin. The result suggests that the ethanolic bark extract of Terminalia arjuna showed a significant hepatoprotective effect.
