Bioactive long chain amides from Solanum schimperianum Hochst growing in Saudi Arabia

ABSTRACT:

Phytochemical investigation of the aerial parts of Solanum schimperianum Hochst led to isolation of four compounds 1-{1-[2-(2 hydroxypropoxy) propoxy] propan-2-yloxy} propan-2-ol. (1), acetamide (2), stearamide (3) and (6E, 9E)-N,N-dimethyloctadeca-6,9-dienamide (4). Compounds 1-4 were isolated for the first time from the family solanaceae. The structure elucidation of the isolated compounds was based on careful inspection of spectral data including 1D and 2D NMR data and MS, in addition to, comparison with literatures. The extract showed strong antimicrobial activity in most of the tested microorganisms, while the compounds 1, 3 and 4 showed antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli and Candida albican.
