Isolation of the Salt Tolerant Mycorrhizal Species from the Saline Field under Sugarcane Cultivation

ABSTRACT: The present study deals with the isolation of salt tolerant Mycorrhizal fungi, from the rhizosphere of the healthy sugarcane crop, especially cultivation in western and southern parts of Maharashtra. The spore density per 50 gm of soil sample was found to be negatively correlated to the soil salinity; likewise the species richness got reduced with increase in salinity. It was found that there is no correlation between the colonization percentage and salinity. A dominant viable species of Mycorrrhiza has been found to be Glomus Sp., which was present all along the salinity gradient.
