A bacteriological study of the Thymus capitatus essential oil Of Tunisia

ABSTRACT: This work deals with the properties of the antibacterial effect of Thymus capitatus essential oil. A qualitative study by GC / MS on the extracts of the essential oil was realized. Forty two constituents were found. This major products are: thymol, carvacrol and terpinen-4-ol. The Thymus capitatus essential oil test was applied on nine bacteria. Results showed that the extracts of oil present an activity that stand especially against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and against reference bacteria such as Escherichia coli (ATCC 7625), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 7624), and Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 76110).
